Simple Chess Board Setup: Your First Step To Chess Mastery

Chess is a game of logic, strategy, and limitless potential. The Chess Board

 

Let’s start with the actual chess board before evolving on to the setup. An 8×8 grid of 64 squares makes up a typical chess board. Occasionally white and black, the squares rotate between light and dark hues. Take care the board is set up sufficiently with a white square in the corner of each player’s right.

 

 

The Chess Pieces

 

Now, let’s introduce the cast of characters:

 

1. King (1 per player)

 

The King is the most relevant piece on the board, just one per player.

 

2.Queen (1 per player):

 

The most powerful piece, capable of moving in any direction.

 

3.Rooks (2 per player):

 

These castle-like pieces move vertically or horizontally across the board.

 

4. Knights (2 per player):

 

Knights have unique L-shaped moves and can jump over other pieces.

 

5. Bishops (2 per player):

 

Bishops move diagonally across the board.

 

6. Pawns (8 per player):

Setting Up the Chess Board

 

Let’s now place those pieces on the board:

 

1.Place the rooks in each corner of the board.

 

2.Next to the rooks, put the knights.

 

3.Beside the knights, position the bishops.

 

4.The queen goes on the remaining square of her color, and the king stands beside her.

 

5.Repeat the above steps for the other player, making sure the pieces mirror each other.

 

Chess Etiquette

 

. Always touch the piece you intend to move and announce “I adjust” if you need to adjust a piece without moving it.

 

. After making a legal move, announce “I move” to ensure clarity.

 

. Capture an opponent’s piece by moving your piece to its square and announcing “Capture” or simply “Take.”

 

. If your king is under attack (in check), announce “Check” to alert your opponent.
